5 self-care tips for your mental well-being

Sean Crowley, February 23, 2024

It is not necessary to wait for the holidays to arrive to dedicate time to yourself. Mental health is as important as physical health and you must keep it in shape, even in the midst of routine Reiki.

Have you ever thought that self-esteem and self-care go hand in hand? The more you pamper yourself, the better you will know yourself and the more personal peace of mind you will obtain. This will be noticeable in your mental health, in your emotional well-being. Self-care does not necessarily have to do with going to a gym (although it is also important), but rather involves different actions such as taking a weekend to stay home resting, staying away from toxic people; reorganize finances or keep a personal diary.

Having peace of mind is very important for health because we can:

Appreciate life better.
Observe the current circumstances more calmly.
Face challenges with greater confidence.
Relate in a more serene way.

Below we give you 5 practical tips to take care of your mental health:

  1. Set limits
Setting boundaries is very important because it allows you to define what is acceptable and what is unacceptable to you; how far you are willing to go or tolerate (in a relationship, at work, in everyday conflicts, etc.) When you set limits, you give importance to your own thoughts and feelings and you can make it clear to others what they can do. expect from you. A very common phrase/joke that serves as a classic example of setting boundaries is when a friend casually mentions “You can count on me for anything, except lending you money.” Would you get angry? Most likely your answer is “no.” Why are we so afraidset our own limitsin other aspects?
  2. Get enough sleep
Sleeping well is closely related to mental health. Lack of restful rest makes you feel tired, irritable and anxious. This is reflected in the way you make decisions and deal with daily tasks. Stress contributes to lack of sleep, so relaxing helps counteract stress and vice versa. It is a vicious circle that you yourself can help generate. Getting enough sleep generates a comprehensive repair in your physical and mental health and in this way you can improve productivity and mood, and of course, it will help you make better decisions to deal with what worries you.
  3. Stay away (or at least disconnect) from toxic people
Try to ignore, avoid or stop following those people who make you feel bad, who do not contribute to your good mood, who are always complaining and do not provide solutions. Of course, if the person in question is someone with whom you inevitably have to spend time (such as a co-worker or family member), you have to establish limits on living together.
  4. Avoid impulsive purchases
This is not trivial advice. Some people associate self-care with feeling good instantly, and a practical way is to go shopping, because it is associated with pleasure and self-indulgence. But be careful! Self-indulgence is not the same as self-care: the former is an impulse that generates momentary joy and the latter is a continuous and meditated process that generates long-term well-being. Not to mention that compulsive purchases can cause many headaches days later when we are aware of unnecessary expenses.

At this point, it’s worth rethinking money as a tool to help us achieve goals and maintain a comfortable life. So well-managed finances can give you peace of mind.

  1. Practice self-compassion
Kristin Neff, a psychology professor at the University of Texas, advocates forself-pity. In his words, ” It means treating yourself with the same kind of kindness, care and compassion that you would treat your loved ones: your good friends, your loved ones .” It’s about giving you the same understanding even when you make mistakes.

In this sense, you can recognize that you need help. There is constant pressure to have everything in order, under control. Because? Sometimes we need to let go, express our emotions, recognize that we can’t do everything and that we need help. Don’t be afraid to talk about what you’re going through and seek help. Delegate responsibilities, trust friends and family and enjoy the feeling of feeling loved and valued. Not only children need a “tribe” of care around them; adults too. We all can and must take care of ourselves.
